Our Pastor
Rev. Maryellen Hittel
Maryellen joined the Rockmart community in October of 2006. She was ordained and installed at the church after graduating from Columbia Theological Seminary in May of that year. Throughout her life she has felt God’s hand guide and direct her in ministry wherever she was. Because God graces us with life abundant, Maryellen affirms that to live with gratitude and openness to God in all of life is one of her goals. She longs for the church to be a place where individuals experience the reality of God’s presence for their daily lives and where spiritual gifts are nurtured for service in the world. Through worship, Christians understand that they are indeed disciples of Christ and discover who they truly are in relationship to God and to one another.

Maryellen believes that the Spirit is alive and well and moving in Rockmart and the world. One of her favorite questions is “Where is God calling us?” In all times and places the church is discerning God’s movements and following the Lord’s lead. Maryellen does like to employ hands on learning; vivid images help to convey God’s message particularly in our world today. She says “Christian formation is about growing to be a little bit more like Christ each day.” The call to Rockmart Presbyterian Church has been a great joy and it is her prayer that God will continue to use the Church to express God’s love, joy and peace here at this time.

Prior to entering full time ministry, Maryellen was a stay at home mother and an active member of her community. She is married to Dr. Glenn P. Hittel of Cartersville. They have 3 daughters: Kacie, Ashley and Julie and 2 son-in-laws – the family continues to grow.   Contact Maryellen at rockmartpastor@bellsouth.net
